In 1947, the American Ed Lowe had the idea for a mineral-based cat litter.

What he did not consider at the time were the long transport routes and the associated CO2 pollution, and disposal is also problematic: more than 630,000 tonnes of waste are generated in Germany every year by mineral litter, which corresponds to the load of 63,000 waste lorries.

A gigantic, growing mountain of waste, most of which is incinerated at the expense of the environment. But that's not all: emission-intensive supply chains, the use of non-renewable raw materials and comparatively ineffective product properties further depress the eco-balance of mineral litter.

„We are the first German company to support the "Cats for Future" initiative, because it is about because it is about much more than just marketing our plant-based litter products. JRS PETCARE would like to make an active contribution to raising awareness for environmental issues in cat care and for existing, sustainable solutions. We are concerned with a responsible approach to nature, the conservation of resources, circularity and effectiveness," says Michael Bodfeld, Vice President Sales & Marketing JRS PETCARE.

The "Cats for Future" initiative therefore calls for a rethink and a ban on mineral products by 2030 in favour of sustainable plant litter, which is significantly more effective and ecologically degradable. The aim is also to create a political framework for the comprehensive disposal of plant litter in organic waste. As part of circular waste management, plant litter is industrially compostable and supports the biological processes of methanisation for methane gas production.
